CRICKET: Woodhall batsmen put on Sunday best to beat Boston

Woodhall Spa Sunday XI produced a remarkable batting performance to come out on top in a high scoring Lincoln and District League First Division thriller against Boston at Jubilee Park on Sunday.

On a flat wicket, Boston must have thought they were on their way to victory when they batted first and rattled up an impressive 253-3 off 40 overs.

Phil Roberts took advantage of a short boundary to crash a superb 137 while Jonny Cheer - playing against many of his Woodhall teammates - added 63 to certainly spoil some early season bowling figures.

However, Woodhall chased down that formidable total with particularly telling contributions from Jack Hughes and Matthew Sargeant.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Hughes cracked an unbeaten 77 while Sargeant showed why he’s a member of the Lincolnshire county squad with a superb 59, which included some powerful shots to all parts of the ground.

However, it was 15-year-old Lewis Holmes who helped Woodhall over the finish line for the loss of six wickets with a quickfire 22 not out.
