Last Wednesday marked round two of the Horncastle Midweek Cricket 8s and the introduction of The Squash Club to the competition. They took on The Bull at Horncastle Cricket Club.
The Squash Club won the toss and elected to bat. They started cautiously but kept wickets in hand for a late onslaught. They managed to score 119 from their 16 overs, thanks to some excellent batting from Horncastle CC youngsters Ben Wilkinson and Danny Wells.
The Bull’s reply got off to a slow start and after five overs the score had reached only 18. Dave Williams and Mark Kelsey picked up the scoring rate and the run chase was on. Kelsey batted well for his 28.
Nick Paige joined Williams at the crease and together they neared the 120 target. They went into the last over needing just four to win and with Williams on 46. A well-struck boundary took The Bull to victory and Williams to a well-deserved half century.
Tonight, The Squash Club will be looking to bounce back as they take on Harpars at Horncastle CC. The match starts at 6.30pm and there will be a bar and barbecue for players and spectators alike.
