CRICKET: Openers are too hit for Horncastle

Horncastle Cricket club never recovered from a whirlwind start by rivals Bassingham as they lost by 47 runs in a Lincoln and District League Division Three game last Sunday.

Bassingham batted first and openers N Makwana (70) and S Butt (51) added 111 for the opening wicket in hard-hitting style.

Bassingham duly built on that impressive start and piled up 231-7 with all Horncastle’s bowlers struggling.

At least, Horncastle produced a determined reply and their innings closed on 184-8.
