Horncastle Cricket Club will have a new captain at the helm for the 2015 season.
Nick Hill takes over as Saturday captain of the Lincolnshire league side after Nick Paige decided to stand down at the end of last season.
Nick, originally from Essex, only made his Horncastle debut last season but can boast an impressive cricketing cv.
He started playing at the age of nine for Southend-On-Sea Cricket Club, making his 1st team debut in the Shepherd Neame Premier League at the age of 16.
During his time with the club, Nick was selected to play for the league representative side, which also represented Essex.
After playing for the club for 18 years, Nick moved away to continue his studies, finally arriving in Lincolnshire where he met my wife.
For the past couple of years Nick had continued to travel south at weekends to play his cricket, but family pressures meant he needed to find somewhere closer to home.
On his appointment Nick Paige said: “Horncastle is a club with ambition and lots of potential, the facilities are second to none and we have a great group of players, including some very promising youngsters looking to develop into senior cricket.
“This season will be an exiting time to be at Horncastle CC and I am looking forward to the challenge of being captain and taking the team forward on and off the pitch.”
Club President Michael Paige said: “Despite only arriving at Horncastle at the middle of last season, Nick’s pedigree shone through.
“I am confident his professional approach and encouragement will help our promising youngsters develop their game next season.”
Chairman, Dean Wilkinson added: “The club would like to thank Nick Paige for all his hard work over the past three seasons, we hope to still see him opening the batting this year.
“We are delighted to appointment Nick as new club captain. He brings a wealth of experience to the role and has already suggested a few fresh ideas for the coming season.
“After the disappointment of last season’s relegation everyone is desperate to get back on the winning trail in 2015.”
A pre-season players meeting is being arranged for early March before winter nets start later that month. In the meantime the club is always keen to hear from anyone interested in joining the club and can contact Nick on 07807778877 or club development officer Tim Hannam on 07850 804405.
