CRICKET: Gatting the guest as Woodhall Spa stages county’s first festival

Former England captain Mike Gatting will be the special guest at the first Lincolnshire Cricket Festival, which will be largely centered at Woodhall Spa’s Jubilee Park ground.

Organised by the Lincolnshire Cricket Network - which is made up of the County Cricket Board, the County Cricket Club and the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League - the event will follow the visit of Lashings XI to Woodhall Spa on Tuesday, July 29.

The Network is charged by the ECB with developing cricket in the county and attracting more players into the game.

The Festival will provide an abundance of cricket for all ages to enjoy, together with coaching for girls and boys of all ages - and activities for people with disabilities.

Once the all-star Lashings team has left, Woodhall’s Jubilee Park ground will be prepared for the following day’s Lincolnshire Gentlemen’s match.

This will be followed on the Thursday by a Lincolnshire Girls’ Under-17 game against Northamptonshire while in the evening, two guest teams will battle out a shortened version of the T20 Blast.

On Friday, Lincs U19s play Norfolk, a match that will be watched by Gatting who will later take part in a question and answer session.

The following day, Woodhall will take back their ground for their South Lincolnshire & Border League match against Boston.

The Festival week ends at Grantham where Lincolnshire take on Buckinghamshire in the Minor Counties Championship from August 3 to 5.

On Thursday and Friday of the Festival, a variety of sponsors are attending - including Jaguar Cars - and activities such as table cricket, girls’ coaching with members of the England Women’s team and junior coaching with county coaches will take place.

Anyone of any age interested joining a club or finding out more about cricket in Lincolnshire is welcome to drop in and talk to members of the three organisations involved.

A full programme will be available nearer the time of the Festival. To register for further details, contact Lincolnshire Cricket Ltd on 01522 528838 or email
