Champagne celebration for title-winning Horncastle CC Seconds

The Lincoln and District League Division Two champions signed off in style with an eight-wicket home win against Reepham this weekend.

Victory ensured a 62-point lead over runners-up Hykeham in a dominant season where Horncastle won 13 of their 16 league contests, losing once and seeing two fall foul of the conditions.

And there was more success for Rob Bee and Richard Hickling.

Bee was the division’s leading run scorer with 581, while Hickling was the leading wicket taker, claiming 39 victims.

Hickling claimed the final three of those wickets for the loss of 10 runs as Reepham were back in the pavilion with 65 on the board.

Gareth Jones led the way on the day with figures of 6-37, while the other scalp was taken by William Broughton.

Horncastle needed 16 overs to reach 66-2.

Jonathan Clark top-scored with an unbeaten 28, backed up by Bee 17 and Chris Guest (16 not out).
