I was extremely shocked and upset to read the report, in particular the headline, in the Horncastle News regarding the care of the residents at Southwold Nursing Home in Tetford.
My mother, Pat Bouskill, had worked at that home for nearly 30 years before she retired and had known nothing but the best care and compassion from all who have worked there with her.
She has seen three different owners, each being as competent and thorough as the last.
I have also been associated with the home for the past 30 years, initially as a child, visiting the residents and talking to them, playing with them and entertaining them. Once I left school I worked at the home as a part time cleaner for the summer before I went to University. During this time I saw a wonderful team of nurses and care assistants doing a fantastic job or caring for the residents and their families, meeting their every need.
Shailen and his team admit they have work to do to meet the criteria required by the CQC, however I believe some of the accusations in the report are misleading and potentially harmful for the place that has been known as one of the best nursing homes in the area for many years.
Wednesday’s report must have been soul-destroying for the dedicated and hard-working team of carers currently working there, not to mention the residents and their families.
Personally, I believe Southwold to be an excellent resource for our local elderly population. My mum has always said she would be more than happy to become a resident of Southwold, should the need arise, as she knows she would receive the top quality loving care that is given to all residents.
