The National Grid is urging people to attend a meeting on January 22 when it will unveil plans for major gas main repairs in Horncastle.

The company is holding an information evening at Stanhope Hall when it will outline measures for essential repairs to gas mains in North Street, High Street and St Lawrence Street.

The meeting will run from 7pm to 8.30pm and will include details of the traffic management proposals for the scheme.

National Grid is planning to carry out the essential project so it can keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses for decades to come.

The existing iron pipes will be replaced with tough new plastic pipes that have a life span of at least 80 years.

Work on the scheme is due to start on February 10 and is expected to take seven weeks.

All agencies involved are promising to keep disruption to a minimum.

National Grid Authorising Engineer Paul Patrick said: “We would encourage people to take this opportunity to find out more about the project.

“Keeping our workforce, motorists and other road users safe is our top priority but we always try to minimise disruption where possible.

“We appreciate North Street is a main route so we have consulted Lincolnshire Highways, the police, bus companies and other organisations to find the best way of carrying out the work and we would welcome any feedback.”
