BREAKING NEWS VIDEO: Air ambulance lands on Jubilee Way following serious collision in Horncastle town centre

Emergency vehicles rushed to Horncastle town centre this lunchtime after a pedestrian appeared to be seriously injured in a collision with a lorry.

Two fire engines, the air ambulance, an ambulance, paramedics and police were on the scene - outside the One Stop store in the Bull Ring - within minutes.

The man, who is local and in his 50s, appeared to be trapped under the rear of the lorry, just yards away from the traffic lights at the town’s main junction.

According to eyewitnesses, the man had suffered serious leg injuries.

The incident happened just before 12.45pm.

Paramedics and fire crew erected a temporary hoarding around the injured man while he was treated.

He has been airlifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The air ambulance landed at the junction of the Bull Ring, Jubilee Way, South Street and East Street.

Police diverted traffic which was backed up along Jubilee Way.

One eyewitness said the injured man had been shopping locally just before the incident.

A shopping trolley appeared to be trapped under the lorry.

Another eyewitness said they heard a loud bang and a “screech of brakes”.

Before police arrived, people at the scene helped divert traffic away from the incident.

The Lincs Road Policing Unit tweeted at 1.30pm: “Please avoid Horncastle centre at all costs for the next couple of hours due to an accident.”
