Thousands expected to turn out for Christmas Markets

Horncastle’s market will take place on Sunday, and the added bonus this year is free parking at all East Lindsey District Council-owned car parks in the town.

First up, though, is Woodhall Spa on Friday night.

Organised by the village Rotary Club, it will be open from 6-9pm and promises something for all ages.

There will be over 80 stalls lining the main road - many of them promoting local crafts.

Shops, restaurants and cafes in Woodhall Spa will also be open.

There will be a procession through the village and a carol concert in Royal Square.

Parking is available at Jubilee Park, The Golf Hotel and the National Golf Centre.

Horncastle’s market has attracted more than 90 stalls, both indoor at the community centre and outdoors in the market place and main street.

Organisers, the town’s Festival Committee, has put together an amazing list of attractions from live music through to children’s rides and a display of exotic animals.

Performing around the town throughout the day will be Earthbound Misfits stilt walkers, Morris Dancers, a Twist and Make Balloon artist and Banovallum Brass.

There will also be a full line-up of entertainment on the main stage in the market place, beginning with Horncastle Young Stagers.

Compere for the day will be Darren Yates, and also performing will be Table 14 (11.30am - 12.15 and 1.30pm - 2pm), The Dreambelles (12.15 - 1pm and 2pm - 2.45pm); Banovallum Brass (1pm - 1.30pm); Horncastle Community Choir (2.45pm - 3.10pm) and St Mary’s Gospellers (3.25pm).

In addition, Santa’s Grotto will be sited on Bridge Street at Travis Perkins.

There are three competitions being judged on the day too - Best Dressed Shop Window, Best Dressed Stall Minder or Shop Keeper and Best Dressed Visitor, all with a Victorian theme or costume.

The market will be open from 11am to 4pm.

Sunday is also the last chance to visit the Christmas Tree Festival and Galaxy of Stars event being held in St Mary’s Church over the weekend.

The church will be open to visitors from 11am, with the event being rounded off with the Big Carol Sing, accompanied by Banovallum Junior Brass, when the aim is to get as many people as possible singing popular Christmas carols.
