A week-long arts and music festival next month will showcase the wealth of talent Horncastle has to offer.
The classroom will come to St Mary’s Church as the town’s schools transfer their music and art lessons to the town centre venue as part of the event which runs from May 14 to 21.
There will also be a host of musical performances and activities for people to get involved in.
“It is really a celebration of everything the town has to offer and about opening the church up to people,” said the Rev Charles Patrick.
All week, there will be an art exhibition showcasing work from the town’s schools.
The flower club will be creating a flower art picture on the first Saturday and the Rev Patrick will be leading two art workshops with students from Queen Elizabeth Grammar and Banovallum Schools on the Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Horncastle artist Ash Buckingham will be working in the church on the Friday morning, completing a picture which will be gifted to the festival.
People will also have the chance to get involved in the Big Picture, with town residents being asked to go along and draw their house, or take along a photograph of their house, to create an enormous town map.
“People can come in throughout the week to add to the Big Picture,” said Linda Patrick, who is heading up the organising team.
“We invite everyone to come along and see what is going on, appreciate the building and see the wealth of talent in the local area.”
“It is a showcase of what we can do in the town.”
Throughout the week, there will be musical events, concerts and workshops.
The junior brass band will be moving their Tuesday evening rehearsal into the church, while St Mary’s Gospel Choir will be making their debut performance on the Wednesday evening.
There will also be the chance to have a go at playing the piano and the harp, with the event culminating in a full day of events, ending with choral evensong
“This year, the focus is mainly on school, but hopefully it will become a regular event and we can work with other groups,” added Linda.
