Residents in Woodhall Spa battling to stop a community field from being built on are celebrating a major success.
There were widespread protests when Waterloo Housing Association announced they wanted to build on the Rally Field off Alexandra Road.
Campaigners claimed the site is a “valuable community asset and used for a host of events.”
Waterloo had identified the Rally Field for housing after running into problems at another site nearby.
That second site was subject to an application by residents for official village green status.
Had their application been successful, it would have prevented any development.
However, district councillor Craig Leyland has revealed the village green bid has been rejected.
He said he now expected Waterloo to renew their interest in that site. They already have planning permission.
Coun Leyland said: “I can understand residents who wanted the village green will be disappointed but of the two sites, I think the community as a whole would much prefer houses were not built on the Rally Field.”
