Councillors have agreed to start the process which could lead to the implementation of measures to protect the character and appearance of Woodhall Spa Conservation Area.
With the support of the Woodhall Spa Parish Council and its Heritage Subgroup, East Lindsey District Council is proposing to use two planning tools, the creation of a Local Development Order and implementation of an Article 4 Direction.
This could bring potentially harmful development in Woodhall Spa Conservation Area into planning control whilst at the same time allowing development that will either enhance the conservation area or not harm it, to be carried out without the need to apply for planning permission.
Portfolio Holder with responsibility for Planning, Councillor Craig Leyland, said: “These measures are seen as an innovative way of encouraging beneficial change and streamlining the planning process.
“It will enable the Council to help protect the uniqueness of Woodhall Spa.”
The move is subject to a legal process, which does include a period of public consultation which will be undertaken in the Spring 2015 in conjunction with the emerging Woodhall Spa Neighbourhood Plan.
The district council are encouraging the residents of Woodhall Spa to support the neighbourhood planning process and actively engage with the consultation.
