Coningsby councillors shocked by library proposal

Parish Councillors in Coningsby have expressed their shock at Lincolnshire County Council’s proposal to close the town’s library.

LCC is currently holding a consultation over the county’s library services and it is suggested that Coningsby Library, on Butt’s Lane, will close and be replaced by a super mobile service.

The library hours will be cut from 28 per week to between six and eight hours per month under the proposals.

Another option is that the library could be run by volunteers. An information pack is available to community groups to fill in an expression of interest.

Councillors decided to arrange a meeting with Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council and the RAF to see what the community thinks about proposals.

The library building is owned by Gartree Community School and is leased to the Council.

Councillors were surprised by LCC’s plans and feel they should look for people and volunteer groups to help with the local library services. The building is also home to Tattershall’s Parish Office and East Lindsey District Council’s Compass Point/Information Desk.
