‘Miss Sarah Jane’ - one of the country’s most popular 40s performers - will walk the streets of Woodhall Spa on Friday serenading residents with her rendition of 40s hits.

She explained: “I want to commemorate VE75 and bring a little good cheer back to the community.

“I live within the village and this weekend I had many big events planned which all have fallen through.”

Miss Sarah Jane explained she would be performing on Friday with ‘a portable PA system’.

She added: “I will begin my walk at 10am, starting at Heatherlea Care home on Tor-O-Mor Road and finishing at Eastwood Care home on Stanhope Avenue around 11:30am.

“I’ll be singing outside each care home on route.”

Miss Sarah Jane stressed she was not looking to tempt people to break lockdown regulations by gathering in groups to listen - or to travel to Woodhall Spa.

She said: “My walk will take me down The Boadway and I am encouraging people to come to their windows and door steps to take part in a little community cheer to commemorate this special day.”

Miss Sarah is in demand at many events, including Woodhall Spa’s own 40’s festival which, sadly, was cancelled this year because of Covid-19.

She has performed ‘live’ on the radio as well as in military messes across the UK,

She says the performance she holds dearest to her heart was alongside Dambusters veteran George “Johnny” Johnson for the Battle of Britain memorial ball held at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa.

Her sets include music from the 1920s and through the 1940s with many of the great hits from the Andrews Sisters, Vera Lynn, Ella Fitzgerald - along with less well known performers.

She added: “I have an array of costumes from my authentic WAAF uniform right through to the beautiful tea dresses and furs worn throughout the period.”
