Organisers of the annual Coningsby and District Show have confirmed that this year’s event has been cancelled due to ‘unforseen circumstances’.
Committee members took the decision at an extraordinary general meeting on July 25, six weeks before the event was due to take place.
They discussed the feasibility of continuing with a reduced committee, following what they described in a statement as ‘the unavailability of key members of the committee, due to unforeseen circumstances’.
Following a lengthy decision, they decided to call off the event.
Committee members say they made the announcement so regular exhibitors are aware of the situation – and appealed for more volunteers to come forward to help organise shows in future years.
In a statement, they added: “The show has been organised by a small committee for several years and attempts to encourage more people to join the committee and help with the organisation of the show in recent years have so far been unsuccessful.
“If this popular annual event is to continue in its present form from 2017, it is essential for interested members of the Coningsby and district community to consider joining the committee by attending the AGM and offering their services.
“Details of this year’s AGM, and the date, will be confirmed later. Further information about the future prospects of the show will be announced in due course.
“Being part of the committee involves six meetings a year – a small commitment for a big reward for your local community.”
