A “mystery buyer” has come forward to add another dramatic twist to the fight to save Horncastle’s Red Lion Theatre.
Town councillor Brian Burbage - who is also a leading figure on the Theatre’s Management Company - described the development as “promising.”
Speaking at last week’s Town Council meeting, he said the buyer was “local, but not from Horncastle.”
He did not give any further details but added talks had taken place between the prospective purchaser and the theatre company.
Coun Burbage said the buyer had indicated he was “prepared to work with the theatre.”
He added: “He (the buyer) has spoken to East Lindsey District Council and they seem to be supportive of his plans.
“As things stand, we (the theatre company) are not certain what those plans are, but it is perhaps another option.”
Coun Burbage said even if the buyer went ahead, there were a number of issues to resolve, including the costs of rent and access to the theatre building at the rear of the Red Lion site.
He admitted things were still “up in the air.”
