Methodist Chapel appeal for memories

Horncastle’s Queen St Methodist Chapel is appealing for memories and souvenirs from members of the public to help celebrate 50 years of the current building in September

Perhaps you were married, christened at the church or just have very fond and/or interesting memories and photographs of the venue?

Maybe you hire the premises for your events?

Please send details of what you may have, together with a contact number to: “Anniversary Celebrations”, The Methodist Chapel, Queen Street, Horncastle.

The first Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1786 in the district known as The Wong or Cagthorpe. It was replaced by a new chapel on the same site in 1806.

In 1837, a new chapel was built in Queen Street, which was in turn replaced by a new chapel on the same site in 1870.

This chapel was found to be unsafe and closed in 1962, but was replaced on the same site by the present chapel which opened in 1965.
