Horncastle has won the runner up prize in ‘Class Four’ in the Best Kept Villages and Small Town Competition 2015 run by the Campaign to Protect Rural England.
Points were awarded for the presentation and tidiness of business premises, community buildings and centres - along with playing fields, children’s play areas, schools, churches, chapels, open spaces and war memorials.
Town clerk Gillian Mauger said Horncastle earned high praise from judges whose comments included:
l A delightful town still retaining many Georgian and Victorian Buildings;
l An attractive town to visit;
l Shops retaining the charm of a historical town;
l The town has a friendly atmosphere.
Mrs Mauger thanked everyone who contributed. Alford took first place.
