Users of a GPs’ practice in Tetford have rushed to its defence despite it being highlighted as having serious concerns following a survey.

The Wolds Practice has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as requiring improvement in three of its five checks including: ‘Standards of caring for people safely and protecting them from harm’, ‘Standards of staffing’ and ‘Standards of quality and suitability of management’.

Users of the surgery, however, have vehemently defended it saying they have had no issues with the practice. The report said there were systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection at the surgery but the policies did not fully describe the processes needed and they were not being adhered to.

It also found that records for one controlled drug were not available to examine and other controlled drug records had not been completed correctly - also revealing that there had been a number of errors relating to medicines being supplied to patients incorrectly.

In a statement Gary James, Accountable Officer for NHS Lincolnshire East CCG, said: “Following its inspection of more than 900 GP practices, we are aware that the CQC’s report has noted the Wolds Practice in Tetford as a GP practice with which it has serious concerns.

“The practice was made aware of these concerns following their inspection and since this time they have been working on actions to address these concerns. A number of improvements have already been completed and the practice is continuing to work hard to ensure it reaches the standards set by the CQC.

“The CQC report identifies that patients are very complimentary about the care that they receive at the practice and the practice remains committed to putting its patients first.”

Stuart Marwood contacted the Horncastle News on Facebook and said: “I’ve had a very good experience for the entire 34 years of my life and so have my family as well.

“Cannot fault them at all.

“A professional service by human beings, who treat you as a person, I would still recommend them to anyone.”

Katrina Simons added: “A lovely surgery with excellent doctors and staff.”

Mick Mills emailed us to say: “As a long time user of the Wolds Practice I can say, in my opinion, you will travel a long way before finding a better surgery.

“Staff are hard working and caring, always available and always friendly.

“You will not find doctors who work harder for their patients and the larger community than Drs Owen and Smith.

“If occasional errors have been found then let us not forget that this surgery is run by human people who, like all of us, should be cut a little slack from time to time.”
