Two new £90,000 mobile breast screening vans have been launched in Lincolnshire, making services more accessible to women in and around Horncastle.

The vans will conduct screening in a number of towns and villages across the county, including Woodhall Spa, utilising £135,000 digital mammography machines from Siemens.

Donna Garment, breast radiology services manager at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Digital mammography machines allow for better diagnostic accuracy, especially in women with dense breast tissue such as younger women. The woman’s mammographers on the mobile unit are now able to see an image while they are on the mobile unit, which should reduce the need for women to return for technical imaging reasons.”

The vans visit Horncastle sometime during September-November, Woodhal Spa during Dec 2014-Jan 2015, Caistor during Caistor Oct 2015 - Nov 2015, Market Rasen during December 2015-February 2016.
