GCSE RESULTS - GALLERY: It's a hat-trick for St George's Academy

The total number of students achieving five A*-C grades including English and maths climbed to 53 per cent while the numbers of students achieving 5A*-G also rose to 98 per cent.

In addition, 66 per cent of students achieved a C grade or better in maths whilst, 64 per cent achieved C or better in English - a seven per cent improvement in two years.

The progress made by students on both the Sleaford and Ruskington sites was also another significant feature. Compared to last year’s national data, for example, St George’s students made above average progress and many of them are now joining the Sleaford Join Sixth Form.

Principal Wayne Birks said: “Despite changes to the way in which student outcomes are calculated and the extra demands on staff and students, I’m delighted to report that we have seen yet another improvement in GCSE outcomes with more students making expected progress and achieving their target grades.

“With nearly 400 students, this is one of the largest year 11 cohorts we have seen at St George’s and I am really delighted with their performance and the way they approached the demands of GCSE. Outcomes in English, in particular, improved strongly and there were similarly strong performances in other core subjects. It is clear that the hard work of students and staff combined with a relentless focus on improving the quality of teaching and the effectiveness of intervention strategies is having a marked effect on outcomes and therefore the opportunities available to students. I would like to congratulate my colleagues and our students for their superb effort and I would also like to thank governors for their unrelenting support.”
