An A400M ATLAS will land at RAF Coningsby today, Friday October 9, for the first time.

It is expected to land at 1600 local time and will be arriving to support the Air Combat Power Visit (ACPV) 2015 being hosted by the station.

The ACPV is a showcase to MOD personnel to bring them up to date with the cutting edge of today’s Air Power.

The ATLAS is a multi-national four-engine turbo-prop military transporter designed and built by Airbus as a tactical airlifter with strategic capabilities.

It will replace the C-130J Hercules by 2022.

ATLAS is capable of operating in the most austere locations and on natural surface tactical landing zones.

In a single non-stop sortie, ATLAS can carry up to 117 people or 17T over 3000 miles or over 4000 miles with minimal load.
