Final call for votes on Crowders Garden Centre name change

Visitors from the Horncastle community and beyond are being encouraged to head to Crowders Garden Centre this week to cast last-minute votes for the Centre’s new name - with almost one thousand votes having been submitted so far.

The competition runs until February 28 inclusive, and gives visitors the opportunity to shape the future name of the centre, which has forged a rich local history in the town.

Visitors to the Centre have the opportunity to select from three names put forward by colleagues at the centre:

• Wolds View – ‘Trevor Blake’s and Simon Nagle’s favourite scenic view of the Wolds from the plant area’.

• Banovallum – ‘Historic Roman name for Horncastle as suggested by Richard Howitt’.

• Horncastle – ‘Because we are proud to be joining the Horncastle community’.

Wyevale Garden Centres is donating £500 to local voluntary emergency services charity LIVES in recognition of the community’s support for the initiative.

Ken Dawson, Garden Centre Manager at Crowders Garden Centre, said: “We’ve been delighted with the level of community involvement in the competition so far and hope to see many more visitors come into the Centre in the coming days to push votes over the 1,000 mark.

“There are some clear favourites emerging from the voting already, and we look forward to revealing our new name, as decided by our staff and the public, on March 16”.

• Following the name change, the Centre will be hosting a Family Fun Weekend on March 19 and 20, featuring fun activities for all ages.
