Police in Horncastle have warned people about the dangers of making hoax telephone calls to the emergency services.

It follows recent incidents of people using public telephone boxes on Boston Road and Wharf Road dialling 999 and then verbally abused operations.

PSCO Nigel Wass said police were determined to identify the culprits and warned action would be taken.

He added: “The people doing this should realise that apart from the actual abusive calls, they are probably taking up the time of an operator who could be deal with a real emergency.”

Police say they have launched extra patrols in the areas of the call boxes.

*Police are enforcing new waiting restrictions on Bowl Alley Lane.

The restrictions were introduced earlier this week as a result of requests from two schools in the vicinity - St Lawrence and Horncastle Primary - and residents.

There have been claims that parked cars - particularly at the start and finish of the school day - were causing a safety issue.

Police are patrolling the area.
