A man from Woodhall Spa has been jailed for 22 months after a drunk attack which left his victim scarred for life.

Alexander Stewart, of Alexandra Road, admitted unlawfully wounding Benjamin Fisher on January 24 this year after smashing a bottle in his face during a late-night street confrontation in Skegness.

Stewart was jailed after appearing at Lincoln Crown Court earlier today (Tuesday).

Mr Fisher suffered a deep cut to his chin and other cuts to his face and left ear as a result of the incident in Grand Parade.

Justin Wigoder, prosecuting, said Stewart struck a single blow into the face of Mr Fisher causing the bottle to smash on impact.

Stewart then made his way from the scene but was arrested hours later after being traced by police.

Mr Wigoder said: “Mr Fisher was taken to the Pilgrim Hospital. He had multiple lacerations to the left side of his face and a deep laceration to the left side of his chin.

“He has been left with a permanent scar as well as various small scar lines on the left side of his face.

“He does not know why this man attacked him.”

Police later searched Stewart’s home and found three television sets which had been stolen two months earlier from Butlins at Skegness.

Stewart, 33, also admitted handling stolen goods and breach of a 13-week suspended jail sentence imposed for theft of diesel from vehicles at Roughton Moor.

He was jailed for 22 months.

Adrian Langdale, defending, said Stewart was “extremely intoxicated” when he committed the offence and had also taken illicit drugs.

He said: “It is clear words passed between the two parties. Neither side is able to say what those words were.”

Mr Langdale said Stewart had no previous record for serious violence and has since shown remorse.
