World Book Day opened a new chapter for a village school after it also celebrated becoming Lincolnshire's first '˜Heritage School'.'¨Stickney Primary School pupils took part in a week of events as part of the programme run by Historic England, which aims to help schoolchildren develop an understanding of their local heritage and its significance.'¨Activities included heritage walks around the village led by local historians, archaeology workshops and the production of a school timeline.

Classes shared their local history findings with the rest of the school and Dr Ian Marshman from Heritage Lincolnshire presented a plaque to the school’s head teacher Rowena Thompson and history co-ordinator, Vicki Brabben.
The Heritage Schools programme also tries to make teachers more confident in making effective use of local heritage resources to deliver the natonal curriculum.
