Lincolnshire County Council chairman Bill Aron will definitely be leaving his chains of office behind next month.
Instead, he’ll be pulling on his best pair of running shoes - and a Santa outfit.
The Horncastle based County Council stalwart will be competing in the Lincoln Santa Fun Run on Sunday December 14.
And he’ll be dashing across the cobbles outside the cathedral to raise funds for the Horncastle based charity LIVES.
LIVES is Coun Aron’s chosen charity for his year as chairman.
Already, he’s raised almost £1,000 which were the proceeds from a Civic Service held at Lincoln Cathedral earlier in the year.
Now, the veteran politician is hoping to top that figure by completing the fun run.
Coun Aron told the News: “LIVES do an absolutely brilliant job.
“They are Horncastle based and a county-wide organisation so it’s an ideal charity for me to support.
“I’ve nothing but admiration for all their staff and volunteers and they don’t always get the recognition their hard work deserves.”
Coun Aron admitted he had to be “talked into” completing the fun run in a Santa costume.
He added: “It’s not something I would have done but I’m sure it will add to the occasion.
“It’s a two mile course. My intention was to walk it - especially at my age.
“However, I’ve been training and hopefully I’ll be able to run most of it.”
LIVES spokesman Steve Hyde said they were delighted to be chosen by Coun Aron and urged people to back his fund raising bid.
