SOME Tattershall people have been unable to do their shopping following the closure of Haldanes.
The Market Place supermarket was shut on June 30 after the Haldanes Stores Ltd, which had 26 branches in England and Scotland, went into administration.
Since then, it has been reported that elderly people and non-drivers who relied upon the close proximity of the village’s only grocery store are struggling to do their shopping.
This issue was addressed during the public forum section of the July meeting of Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council.
Members of the public even went as far as requesting the council contact Tesco and ask them to provide basic stock in the empty building formerly occupied by Haldanes.
Tesco received planning permission to build a new store in the village in October, 2010, following an appeal hearing.
Building has yet to start on the development.
Councillors refused to contact Tesco over the request, due to fears this action would be seen as biased.
They pointed out that there was nothing stopping the public writing to Tesco themselves.
