Louth Playgoers will be holding auditions later this month for their April 2016 play ‘The Odd Couple (female version.
Directed by Susan Munroe, this fast moving comedy is an update of Neil Simons’ contemporary classic.
The play starts with a close knit group of female friends playing their weekly game of trivial pursuits.
The coterie girls are meeting at Olive Madisons’ apartment, a divorcee who freely admits to being a slob: “I leave a mess when I read a book.”
Late to arrive is Florence Unger, a stickler for detail who would try the patience of a saint, and who has unfortunately just become separated from her husband.
As life would have it, the slob and the fuss-pot decide to room together, with hilarious results.
Within days of Florence moving in, her obsessive habits start taking their toll on Olive and their friends. The only remedy Olive can think of is a pair of brothers from Barcelona who live in same building but this disastrously backfires, and the two women are forced to agree on one thing - even the best of friends sometimes make the worst of room-mates.
A mature cast of six females and two males is required:
Olive - Down to earth, a bit rough round edges, sports fanatic.
Florence - Prim and proper, everything has it’s place and place for everything.
Renee - In the throngs of mid life crisis....the hot flushes come to us all or is that just the men in her life.
Sylvie - Compulsive smoker, curt tongued
Vera - Level head-ish and a little steady on the uptake.
Mickey - Policeman, forever the optimist.
Manolo and Jesus - Two Spanish brothers with engaging personalities, extremely polite and good natured.
The auditions take place on Tuesday, November 24 in the studio at the Riverhead Theatre in Victoria Street, starting at 7.30pm.
Go along at least 15 to 20 minutes before the start time to complete the audition form.
Rehearsals will be held on Monday and Wednesdays, with the production running from April 11 to 16.
