Businesses in Horncastle are being urged to come forward and support a new scheme aimed at boosting the town’s Summer and Winter Festivals.

The day-long festivals attract thousands of visitors to Horncastle, generating extra income for the local economy.

For many years, organisers have relied on donations from the town council and individual businesses to fund the increasing cost of organising and promoting the events.

Now, the town’s Festival Committee has launched a new initiative.

For a donation of £30, businesses will receive a rosette-style sticker which can be displayed in shop windows - showing which premises support the town.

Wil Hawkes, owner of Benton’s Coffee Shop, is a member of the Festival Committee and has already signed up to the scheme.

He’s confident other business will follow.

Mr Hawkes said: “The Festivals are always popular and provide extra income for businesses.

“For £30, businesses will be able to display a rosette and have their name listed as a official Festival sponsor on our website.

“The proceeds will go towards organising costs and increasing the budget for live entertainment, which is also such a big part of the events.”

One of the committee’s biggest outgoings is the cost of securing all-important town centre road closures to accommodate hundreds of stalls.

This year’s Summer Festival will be held on June 29 and star billing will go to ‘Sensation’ - a renowned Abba tribute band.

There will be various other entertainment including ‘Harmonica Dave’. a one-man band, and the Taiko Drummers.

The ‘Upstagers’ from he Horncastle Theatre Group will also perform, along with a roving Punch and Judy Show.
