The grand opening of a new workshop and office facility for Wheels 2 Work was unveiled in West Ashby recently.
Chris Jones, founder and director of Access Your Future, the Lincolnshire County Council supported social enterprise which took on the running of Wheels 2 Work, managed to raise the funds and secure planning permission to build a new office, classroom and workshop space from which to run the scheme.
Mr Jones said: “This increased space allows us to broaden the number of services we offer in order to increase revenue streams and rely less heavily on funding.
“We are already the first Wheels 2 Work scheme in the UK to operate our own in-house compulsory basic training.
“This allows us to raise revenue by charging for the training and we know that when we send the individual off on their scooter for the first time, they have been trained to our standard and are competent on their bikes.”
The new building was opened by Stuart Kinch, county councillor for highways, transport and IT, with the event attracting key individuals from the worlds of local business and education, who gathered alongside district councillors, as well as a number of current scheme riders.
