A power company has apologised for traffic delays in Horncastle but said the work is an essential part of major improvements in the town.
Western Power Distribution (WPD) began work in West Street last Friday (October 23) and led to the installation of temporary traffic lights at the junction with the main Lincoln Road and Jubilee Way.
There were reports of lengthy tailbacks in all directions with many motorists complaining the traffic lights had not been ‘timed’ correctly.
In a statement, a spokesman for the company said: “Western Power Distribution is investing £100,000 on the electricity network in parts of Horncastle, to further improve power supply reliability and speed up restoration times to homes and businesses in the event of a power cut.
“The initiative involves laying new 11,000 volt underground cable, and the first phase began on Friday, October 23 at West Street where it junctions with Lincoln Road.
“We expect this section to be completed by the end of the coming weekend.”
