Members old and new were welcomed to the meeting in the Town Hall, where the topic of the evening was peonies.
Expert Jo Bennison, an experienced enthusiast who started growing peonies when she was 16, had an interesting tale to tell as she progressed to growing them on a much larger scale particularly over the last seven years.
Her informative talk was illustrated by slides of the many varieties of peonies which exist around the world and she explained it was now possible to have them in flower for six weeks.
Jo grows more than 250 varieties that came from New Zealand, America and Europe and had taken along a wide selection of bare rooted plants to purchase afterwards.
She answered many questions in the lively informal session that followed, before she was thanked for sharing her knowledge, refreshments were served and the lucky tickets were drawn in the raffle.
