Members had a very entertaining talk all about pawnbrokers and the history of the their trade at their recent meeting.
They now know the origins of their traditional sign and were amazed to hear of some of the things pawned.
These included women who would buy a couple of dresses at the door from the tally man and the next day take them to the pawnbroker.
They would get them back when their husband got paid at the end of the week, only to return the items to the tally man the following week, saying they did not fit.
The group’s next meeting is in the Methodist Hall on Tuesday, May 3, at 7.30pm, when they will be hearing all about a trip to the World Scout Jamboree.
