Gainsborough's McDonald's Drive-Thru and McDelivery is now open

The McDonald’s Drive-Thru in Trinity Street re-opened on June 2 – but police soon had to be called after the queuing traffic started causing a disruption. Drivers desperate for their fast food fix ended up blocking the road and disrupting other businesses in the area.

Lincolnshire Police's Force Control Room warned drivers they would be fined in a tweet which read: "Gainsborough McDonalds - we have been made aware of traffic issues due to the re-opening of McDonalds.

“Please be aware that vehicles found to be blocking the road or parking on double yellow lines whilst waiting to access McDonalds will be issued with penalty notices. Thanks."

A spokesman for the multi-national burger chain had warned earlier in the week that with restaurant teams adjusting to new procedures to enable safe working and social distancing, things may take a little longer – and high demand was anticipated as outlets re-opened.

“McDonald’s and its franchisees are working closely with local authorities and the police, and may determine that it is necessary to close Drive Thru lanes if queues cause disruption at busier sites or put employees or customers at risk,” the firm said in a statement.

“As employees and the business adapt to a new way of working, McDonald’s would like to thank customers for their continued support and patience,” the spokesman added.
