STIXWOULD gardener and lecturer Andrew Sankey saved the evening for Woodhall Spa and District Gardeners' Association after stepping in to speak at the last minute.
He entertained the final meeting of the spring programme
with a talk on the more unusual historical features used in
gardens.
The talk started with Roman gardens and covered monastery, Tudor and Victorian gardens.
Mr Sankey used sketches of various features to discuss
topiary, knot gardens, follies, grottos and fountains at some
of the larger gardens in the country.
With no further meetings until September, outings have
been arranged throughout the summer including Treversal Manor, Biddulph Grange
Gardens and a trip on the Boston Belle.
The Flower and Produce Show will be held on Saturday, August 1.
