OWNERS of the Spa Baths in Woodhall Spa have until August 10 to make substantial improvements to the semi-derelict buildings, the Woodhall Spa Annual Parish Meeting was told.
East Lindsey District Council have just issued a Section 215 legal notice requiring the work to be done following pressure from the Parish Council (and others) and protracted attempts at alternative solutions in discussion with the owners.
The build
ings, in the heart of the Spa, have been largely untouched since the well collapsed in 1983 and the Spa Baths Trust sold the property.
Up until then it was still in use as a treatment centre.
Welcoming the news, which had come through just before the meeting on May 13, Parish Council chairman, David Clarke, said that various bodies in the Spa, including the Parish Council and Heritage Group were trying to finalise a joint vision for the premises – such as a treatment spa or leisure complex, to help in the bid to see the site redeveloped.
Over the years there have been many approaches by potential developers but none have been successful.
Over 120 people attended the meeting in the newly refurbished Coronation Hall, despite widespread power cuts and heavy rain.
During illustrated presentations from other action groups in the village, those attending saw plans for a new-style café, which the Friends of jubilee Park are hoping to see replace the current building if funding can be found.
They also heard that the current café was currently being repaired prior to opening for the season, rather than demolished as previously proposed, and that pressure was still being put on ELDC to release the promised funding and prioritise the swimming pool in the refurbishment package.
The friends of the Library, the tree Group and Britain in Bloom also brought the village up to date on recent activity and future plans.
l The chairman's full report can been accessed on the community website www.woodhallspa.org, or read in the Library.
