Woodhall Spa Afternoon WI
CHRIS Lines from the charity Coast Watch was the speaker at Woodhall Spa Afternoon WI's July meeting with 36 members and three guests attending.
He explained how Coast Watch was set up in 1994 following a tragic incident off the Cornish coast.
Its
aims are to keep the UK's 11,072.76 miles of coastline safe as well as taking care of it.
There are now 40 operational stations staffed by 18,000 fully trained volunteers who look for problems at sea and report to HM Coastguard.
The volunteers provide their own uniforms, travel costs and often, essential equipment.
Hilary Williams gave the vote of thanks.
Several members had entered the Lincolnshire Show WI and NAFAS classes.
Janice Withers was congratulated on second prize with her mobile phone cover.
Members were reminded of the outing to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, Staffordshire on Thursday, August 27.
Other events include Crazy Bag Whist at Wragby on October 28, Diwali celebrations in Leicester on November 3 and Burghley House Craft Fayre on September 3.
Friday, August 7, is members' afternoon and offers of entertainment are most welcome.
Chatterton's will give a short talk about the changed laws in will making and the competition is an 'interesting tea towel'.
Competition winners for a photo of the bride were: 1 Jean Mair, who is also celebrating her golden wedding anniversary, 2 Marjorie Hayes, 3 Margaret Hamilton.
Flower of the Month winners: 1 Margaret Hamilton, 2 Doreen Holmes, 3 Josie Selby.
Spa Afternoon WI meets in St Peter's Hall on the first Friday of the month at 2pm.
