The Young and Up Stagers of Horncastle Theatre Company visited The Theatre Royal, Nottingham recently to see the hit touring production of “Shrek the Musical”.

Spirits and expectations were high as the group - along with their leaders and assistants - were waved off by a large group of parents.

The show certainly did not disappoint and had something for everyone - bright colourful sets, wonderful characters, terrific songs and great humour.

The whole group loved the show and were all singing and clapping along enthusiastically to the fantastic finale number “I’m a Believer”.

A spokesman for the Up Stagers said: “It was brilliant to have the opportunity to take the entire youth group to see top class, professional theatre.”

The spokesman went on to thank Horncastle’s three district councillors for providing a ‘generous grant’ which made the trip possible.

He added: “Everyone at Young and Up Stagers would like to say a huge thank you to Councillors Richard Avison, Sandra Campbell-Wardman and Fiona Martin for their support and kindly awarding the group a Community Initiative Grant towards this project.

“It was greatly appreciated.”

The Young and Up Stagers are a terrific success story for the theatre company.

The group specifically caters for children aged between seven and 11.

They stage a production every year and meet on Saturday mornings at the Lion Theatre.
