West Ashby WI

The June meeting of West Ashby WI began on a sad note when president Pam Browne announced that former member Sybil Bush had died.

Several members remembered Sybil as an enthusiastic member and a lovely woman.

There is an invitation from Horsington WI to its annual games evening on August 3, while the next walk will be on June 23, with lunch at the Royal Oak.

The speaker for the evening was Andrew Lidster, who gave a fascinating talk on ‘Putting Gunby Hall to Bed’.

This wonderful old house, whose history with the Massingberd family dates back to 1288, was gifted to the National Trust in 1944.

Every year, it closes from November 1 to March 24 for its annual spring clean by dedicated staff and volunteers, when each item is inspected, recorded and, if damaged, assessed.
