More than 200 people braved the soggy conditions and settled down for the evening’s revels with chairs, rugs and picnics, plus wine, in tow.

The traditional all-male cast sparingly use costume, props and set, which is historically accurate, making the performance as close to a Shakespearian theatre as possible.

There are also traditional songs spaced throughout the performance, sung acapella with accompanying renaissance dance routines, adding an extra element that takes the audience back in time 400 years,

The next event at the Castle is the War of the Roses Weekend on July 30 to 31, 11am to 4pm.
