Society shows Regency style

Events began on the Friday evening at Revesby Village Hall with a Regency dance practice together with the reading and performance of The Curse of Cheyne Hall by J.H.Noble, a house party mystery.

Carriage rides through Lincoln and a rooftop tour of the Cathedral took place on the Saturday, before an evening soiree at Sausthorpe Hall, near Spilsby.

There was croquet and battledore on the lawn before dinner was served, followed by entertainment of a Baroque Music Concert by Piccolo and Grande, plus a musical performance and narration on the subject of Restoration England by minstrel Dante Ferrara.

A river cruise on the Witham aboard the Boston Belle occupied Sunday before the grand ball and dinner at Horncastle’s Admiral Rodney Hotel in the evening.

The weekend was rounded off with a Regency Day at the 18th century Gunby Hall, which is the perfect setting for members of the Society to display their Regency dancing techniques.

An opening speech was given by Sir Mostyn Mainwearing-Malhuish and during the day two dance performances took place.

There was a picnic lunch on the lawn and perambulation in the house and grounds offering plenty of interaction with members of the general public.

A short celebratory church service was held during the afternoon too.

The day ended with members taking a jump back into the 21st century, with a fish and chip supper at The Red Lion hostelry at Partney.

The Regency era is considered to be the years 1795- 1837 and Lincolnshire Regency Society aims to promote interest in, and enthusiasm for, all aspects of Regency culture.
