Get your boots at the ready for Wolds Walking Festival launch

Donington on Bain has been chosen for the launch event this Saturday, May 21.

The village sits on the on the Viking Way long-distance trail, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and many of the day’s walks make good use of this well-maintained route.

Apart from the pre-booked Lincs Wolds Way, all other walks on the day are free and everyone is welcome to just turn up on the day.

The 9½-mile Round the Tower Circular starts at 10.30am, using the impressive Belmont TV tower as its hub.

History buffs will enjoy Interpreting Donington-on-Bain at 10.45am and 1.30pm, which reveals the layers of history hidden beneath today’s village and is suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs.

Everyone’s invited to the Family Exploring Walk at 11am and, at 11.30am, Almost Everest! will be led by Louth-based Tracy Salkeld, who climbed to Everest Base Camp in 2015 to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The village and surroundings have some fascinating industrial history, some of which will be discovered in the Railways and Radar walk at 12.30pm, and Vikings and Volunteers at 1pm will celebrate the Viking Way on a five-mile hike.

Refreshments will be available at the village hall throughout the day.
