THE ladies of the Woodhall Spa 2nd (Elite) team travelled to Boston to play their last match of the season at the weekend.

With a combination of a wet afternoon and cancelling the match not being an option they were grateful that they could play on the indoor courts.

Boston fielded a strong side combining youth and experience, which in the end proved to be too much for Woodhall’s experienced, but not quite so youthful side.

Despite some closely fought matches Woodhall lost 2–7 overall. Wendy Baxter, who was awarded ‘Diplomatic Player’ of the match. Along with her partner, Alison Lauder, they won two rubbers and narrowly lost their third on a long and agonising tie break.

Mandy Roulston and Lorraine Shepherd couldn’t quite manage a win nor could Hayley Hutton and Penny McQuade (captain) but it was not for a lack of trying.

All the ladies of the Elite team should be congratulated on having their most successful season yet, but it should be noted that their best is yet to come.
