Windley starts Wimbledon bid

LOCAL tennis star Jade Windley was today (Tuesday) starting her bid to qualify for Wimbledon.

The 22-year-old, from Tattershall, was scheduled to meet Russia’s Marta Sirotkina in her opening match.

Windley went into the clash on the back of a brave performance in the star-studded WTA event at Eastbourne.

She enjoyed one of the best wins of her career in the first round of qualifying, beating France’s Stephanie Foretez-Garcon who is ranked 77 in the world.

However, Windley then lost in straight sets to Hungary’s Greta Am, ending her hopes of a place in the main draw.
