Nailbiting defeat for tennis team

HORNCASTLE Tennis Club’s ladies first team suffered a nailbiting defeat against rivals Boston in the Slazenger Lincolnshire Doubles League.

Faye Button and Jane Clark won all three of their rubbers for Horncastle while Jessica Nugent and Shirley Sutton won one out of three, losing one match in a very close 14-12 tie-break.

Jenny Golland and Mireya MacRury could not register a win, despite most of their games going to deuce, as Boston registered an overall 5-4 victory.

The men’s team made the short trip to Louth and the team of Karl Sutton and Oli Jones, Matthew and Daniel Dalton and Steve Holmes and Simon Barber lost 8-1.

The pairing of Sutton and Jones registered the only Horncastle victory although several other matches were closely contested and could have gone either way.

The mixed first team enjoyed better fortunes when they won 8-1 with Karl Sutton and Jenny Clark, Matthew Dalton and Jessica Nugent and Daniel Dalton and Faye Button all playing well.
