Mixed results for Horncastle Tennis Club

HORNCASTLE Tennis Cub experienced mixed results in their league matches this week.

First up was a mixed doubles match for the first team against local rivals Jubilee from Woodhall Spa. Featuring for the club were the pairings of Karl Sutton and Jess Nugent, Matt Dalton and Faye Button, and Ben Martin and Jane Clarke.

Horncastle came out on top 5-4, but it wasn’t without its drama, with Jane and Ben having to concede their last match due to injury.

Luckily, the pair won their first match, and with the other two pairs winning two each, victory was narrowly secured, however, Jane had to rule herself out of the weekend ladies fixture away at Grantham.

This meant that Cynthia Goodacre stepped up to play for the Women’s first team, playing with Sally Speed, along with the pairs of Faye Button and Jenny Golland and Shirley Sutton and Harriet Jones. Sadly, the team struggled on the away surface and went down 6-3.

The team have three fixtures remaining in which to try and gain another win to try to secure their place in the top division for another season.

The junior members of the club travelled to Tealby for a joint U8 and U9 match on Friday night. Playing for the U8 team were Louis Fitzaden-Gray, Ben and Max Wilson and Rosie Flint. All team members won matches, securing a 10-6 win for Horncastle.

Playing for the Orange team this week were Josph Sheldon, Freddie Dobbin, Freya Coleman and Callum Chater. Freddie and Joseph both had very close singles matches, narrowly losing out to the more experienced Tealby boys but then teamed up for the doubles and secured a win.

Freya won a singles match too so the final score was 8-2 to Tealby.
