Team GB star presents sports awards at Banovallum School

Ben Pipes, the captain of the Great Britain’s men’s Volleyball team, was the special guest at Banovallum School’s recent sports awards night.

The event was held at the English Golf Union headquarters in Woodhall Spa and helped celebrate another outstanding year for sport at the Horncastle-based school.

Pipes, who was born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, spoke about his own sporting career.

He started playing volleyball at the age of 15 and within two years, he had turned professional.

He led GB in the men’s tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

His career has seen him play for clubs in Spain, Holland, Belgium and Sweden. He is now based in Bournemouth.

He said: “Sport has given me so much so it’s great to attend things like the Banovallum event. It’s a way of giving something back.”
