Horncastle Belles storming start to new season

HORNCASTLE Belles Netball Club have made a fantastic start to the 2012–2013 season.

The club’s U19 squad began their year in fine style by being awarded the gold medals in their section at the Sleaford Barge annual pre-season tournament, winning four of their five games and drawing the fifth against an also unbeaten Brigg side, taking top spot on goal difference.

They have also opened their Lincoln Senior Netball League (Division 2) campaign with three impressive wins over Harpswell Gems (17–15), Lindum Impact (29–16) and Fernwood Falcons (24–14).

The club’s U16 squad has recorded an equally impressive start to its inaugural season in the Lincoln Senior Netball League (Division 3) with two significant wins over Synergy (17–13) and Trilogy (37–9).

Horncastle U16 Red looked splendidly powerful as they notched up a 42–8 victory over Boston Hurricanes. Player of the match was Jazzmin Fotherby (GA) linking well with Meyer Hazard (WA) and new signing Alice Ward, (GS) to form a frighteningly assertive attacking unit.

And, on Sunday, Horncastle U13s travelled over to Nottingham to play their first game in the Two Counties league, returning home with a hard-fought 20–17 win over Hucknall.

In the very last minutes of a thrilling, nail-biting encounter, in which neither side had held sway, and which was always going to be won by only the narrowest of margins, Horncastle managed to snatch victory away from their opponents. Player of the match was Sarah Dickson.

On Saturday morning, Horncastle’s U14 and U12 squads begin their Lincolnshire Junior Netball League campaigns.

Horncastle Belles Netball Club always welcome new members at any age group, and, in particular, are looking to add new players to their U12 and U14 squads.
